Mist ery
Hello and welcome back!
I thought I’d squeeze out one last blog post before I head off to Vietnam in a couple of days, a trip I’m really looking forward to. Between the holidays and my long-term work contract coming to an end, I haven’t been all that productive with the camera…change is good, but I’ll need some time to adjust. In any case, I expect there will be plenty to shoot in a few days :)
In the meantime, here are a few wintry shots…nothing groundbreaking, but it’s still good to get out. I’m a sucker for haze, mist, fog, or a snowstorm, and my wish was occasionally granted. To start off, we had a wicked snowstorm late one day, and I visited my “new favourite” haunt, the abandoned rail track between two busy streets:
This image needs a subject…
There are all kinds of castoffs here, and every weather event changes the scene. Here, you can go grocery shopping:
Or take a load off, and rest a while:
Just be sure to wait a bit before leaving…
…and don’t forget where you parked:
Eventually it became too dark, and despite the mellow temperatures (-5C) my gloves were soaked.
Next day one of the local parks was empty. It was a serene and lonely view, hopefully captured here:
The mist and frost continued in a local forest:
After those weather events, I was fortunate to spend a long weekend at a cabin near Riding Mountain National Park. We had fantastic weather and lots of great XC skiing. If you lived anywhere else but the prairies, you wouldn’t call it a mountain, but it’s still impressive when you get there, after hours of driving on the flat, and it’s high enough to scoop a little extra snow from the air:
I dragged myself out of bed on the first morning to catch the morning sun on this combine resting in a frozen field:
On our first ski outing, the shadows had just covered this open bowl, leaving the “rim” untouched.
Leaving the park, I went out a different way, and the view was pretty spectacular. You don’t have to get up very high on the prairies to see a loooong way off:
Finally, we had a foggy morning just a couple days ago, and I think this is my favourite of the bunch, hence being the title shot:
That’s it for this blog. I’m sure Vietnam will have a slightly different tone, and maybe a tad more colour…
Then, when I return, I have to decide whether I’m simply “unemployed” or “retired”, but I can push that debate off for a few more weeks.
Thanks for reading and take care!
